About this board game

Motor City is a strategic roll-and-write game for 1–5 players, with games lasting about 45 minutes, about running an auto plant in the heyday of Detroit.

Each player uses two sheets filled with multiple areas and interconnected tracks. Marking progress can provide bonuses, unlock additional points, and advance other elements of your plant. Every decision helps shape your development across engineering, assembly, testing, and more.

The game lasts eight rounds. At the start of each round, colored dice are rolled according to the number of players and placed on spaces on the blueprint table based on their values and colors. Players draft and use dice one at a time; after everyone has drafted twice, all players use the remaining die on the blueprint table.

In the standard game, the player with the most points wins. The combination of dice drafting, track advancement, and linked bonuses creates a focused puzzle as you develop your plant over the course of the game.

Motor City also includes a solo mode in which you compete against your own best score while an auditor drafts dice and blocks areas of your sheet. Its difficulty is adjusted during setup by changing the colors of the dice, with no additional rules required.

Released in 2023, Motor City is the third game in the Motor City Gameworks Loaded Roll and Write series, following Fleet: The Dice Game and Three Sisters.
