About this board game
MourneQuest is a cooperative board game for 1–4 players, with a playing time of about 60 minutes. Based on the novel by Irish author Garry McElherron, it sends heroes into a fantastical kingdom shaped by both reality and imagination.
The story begins in 1847, when Jack Turner’s attempt to bring his lost father back through dandelion magic transports him to the true kingdom of Mourne. There, he encounters Cobs, a 437-year-old clurichaun, and discovers that forgotten magic has awakened an ancient evil beneath the mountains.
Nightmares drawn from the darkest corners of Irish legend are rising from their slumber. Their goal is to tear down the ancient wall surrounding the center of the kingdom and free the Old Ones’ Shimnavore.
In MourneQuest, players take on the roles of Jack, Cobs, and their friends as they work together to protect Mourne. The heroes must race across the kingdom, overcome obstacles, dispel the Nightmares, and ultimately defeat the Shimnavore.
- Gather power from the land through granite, blackthorn, flax, and gold.
- Use magical items to boost the heroes’ skills.
- Try to escape the elusive BogBeans of the dark forests and marshlands.
- Battle the Nightmares before they can break through the wall.
Every quest brings the heroes closer to a final confrontation while the dangers of Mourne stand in their way. The fate of the kingdom depends on whether the group can escape the BogBeans, banish the Nightmares, and stop the Shimnavore from breaking free.
