About this board game

Movie Tricks is a trick-taking game for 2–5 players, playable in about 30 minutes, where cards determine turn order and guide the flow of every round.

Each round begins with players playing cards to establish who acts first, second, and so on. Then, following that order, players take cards from the market. This creates a clever connection between trick-taking and card selection: winning a trick helps decide when you get to choose.

The cards played during the round do not simply disappear. Instead, all played cards form the market for the next round, linking one turn of play to the next and giving the evolving market a central role in the game.

  • Play cards to determine turn order.
  • Take cards from the market in that order.
  • Use the played cards to create the next round’s market.

At the end of the game, players score points across different movie-themed categories. These include Best Movie, CGI, Props, Roles, and Soundtrack, giving the final scoring a range of distinct achievements to pursue.

Movie Tricks brings a cinematic theme to a compact card-game structure. Even if you do not win, there is still one memorable consolation: you may be able to brag about having the coolest title.

Released in 2025, Movie Tricks combines turn-order decisions, market selection, and varied end-game scoring in a concise experience for a small group of players.
