About this expansion
Multiuniversum: Project Cthulhu is a 2016 expansion for 1–5 players with an approximately 40-minute play time. It replaces the original worlds with twenty new worlds filled with Cthulhu and introduces new mechanisms and risks.
Scientists at CERN set out to discover whether Cthulhu exists in another universe. Their research opens a portal to R’lyeh, and dangerous consequences begin to emerge. In this expansion, closing portals comes with a cost: each closed portal makes you lose some sanity.
That lost sanity is represented by insanity cards. You collect these cards as portals are closed, and they remain face down for most of the time, adding an uncertain element to your decisions. The cards are a new and unpleasant part of the Cthulhu-themed experience.
The museum offers a way to recover some of your sanity. You can interact with it and spend some of your insanity cards to gain various effects, giving these troublesome cards another possible use.
- Twenty new worlds: Replace the original worlds with Cthulhu-focused locations.
- Portal consequences: Closing a portal causes you to lose sanity.
- Insanity cards: Collect face-down cards that can be spent at the museum.
- Movement option: Discard an action card to move to an adjacent transformer.
With its new worlds, hidden insanity cards, and added movement option, Multiuniversum: Project Cthulhu changes the original setting into a more dangerous encounter with the forces beyond the portal.
