About this board game
Mysticana: A Foundation Deck is an 18-card game system for 1–4 players, with three core games designed to play in about 15 minutes. Its cards feature six ranks across three elemental suits linked by a rock-paper-scissors hierarchy.
The flexible foundation supports three different experiences using the same compact deck. Each game interprets the cards in its own way, while small expansions can add even more games to the system.
- Nine Perils: A solo puzzle of limited information and careful prediction. Arrange cards beneath a nine-card timeline, then try to outmatch every foretold peril by rank and element.
- Sorcerers’ Showdown: A two-player clash of spells and counterspells. Match elements when possible, calculate risks as hands shrink, and use a winning Avatar to steal previously captured cards.
- The Path Ahead: A guessing game for 2–4 players. Decide whether the next card will be stronger or weaker than the current card, managing consequence cards as you pursue the lowest score.
In Nine Perils, each turn reveals part of the central timeline while you draw and place a card into a separate row. After nine turns, every peril must be successfully outmatched for victory.
Sorcerers’ Showdown develops over multiple rounds. Players reserve cards for later, resolve clashes until their hands are empty, and continue with fewer cards as chaos rises. Capturing all of the cards wins the duel.
In The Path Ahead, correct guesses pass play onward, while incorrect guesses bring consequence cards that can affect the final score unless combined into matching sets. The game ends when a player reaches 20 points, and the lowest score wins. Mysticana offers a compact introduction to several distinct styles of play within one elemental card system.
