About this board game

Napoleon at the Crossroads is a campaign game for 2–4 players, with an average play time of 180 minutes. It covers the highways to Leipzig during the 1813 autumn campaign, from 14 August through 25 October.

Using the Campaigns of Napoleon System “2X”, the game represents the campaign at a scale of 6 kilometers per hex, 3,000 men per strength point, and 3 days per turn. The complete autumn campaign lasts only 24 turns, creating a focused examination of this decisive period.

Several scenarios explore key stages of the campaign. Players can begin with the decisive opening in August 1813, take part in the crossing of the Elbe at Wartenburg in mid-September, or follow the approach to Leipzig beginning on 8 October.

  • One 22 × 34-inch game map
  • 56 pages of rules, including campaign analysis and designer’s notes
  • 10 player aid cards
  • Organization Displays, Leader and Unit Manifests, and March Set-up Tables
  • Set-up tables supporting multiple campaign dates

The March Set-up Tables allow scenarios to be prepared for various dates, while the player aids organize the information needed for the campaign. Together, these materials support both the full campaign and its focused historical episodes.

Napoleon at the Crossroads offers a compact campaign framework for exploring the routes, timing, and major turning points leading toward Leipzig. Its 2006 release belongs to the second edition of the system’s scale, identified as Series 2X.
