About this board game

Napoleon on the Danube: The Battle of Deutsch-Wagram is a grand-tactical simulation for two players, with a listed play time of 1200 minutes. Published in 1992, it recreates the Battle of (Deutsch-) Wagram, fought on July 5–6, 1809.

This game is the first NES game of Napoleonic warfare at grand-tactical scale. It is also a descendant of the Napoleon’s Last Battles scale and rules, connecting its treatment of the 1809 battle to that established game system lineage.

The design represents the battle through a carefully defined relationship between map distance, time, and military strength. Each hex covers 480 meters, while every game turn represents 60 minutes of action. Strength points correspond to approximately 450–650 men.
