About this board game
Nature of the Beast: City vs. Suburb is an expandable card game for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. Players recruit animals and use strategy to gain control of their playing field, with the first player to control the entire field winning.
This Battle Box includes two 70-card faction decks: City and Suburb. City animals are tough and maintain close ties with humanity, while Suburb animals rely on cunning despite not being the largest. The contrasting factions offer different identities within the same struggle for control.
Throughout the game, players can promote leaders, purchase equipment, find locations, enlist legendary animals, and befriend human allies. These options support the central contest while giving players several types of cards and relationships to manage.
- Favor: Tracks how much “pull” a player has with humanity.
- Fury: Measures how much of a threat humanity sees a player as.
- Dark Nature: Sinister cards that can become available through gaining Fury.
Attacking opponents increases Fury, creating a powerful but risky tension. Fury can open the way to Dark Nature cards, but gaining too much may eliminate a player from the game. Players must therefore weigh aggression against the danger of becoming humanity’s greatest threat.
With its witty, gritty theme, faction-based card play, and shifting relationship with humanity, Nature of the Beast: City vs. Suburb offers a focused battle between urban strength and suburban cunning. It also integrates with Nature of the Beast: Farm vs. Forest and Nature of the Beast: Prairie vs. Polar.
