About this board game

Nature of the Beast: Farm vs. Forest is an expandable card game for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. Players recruit animals and compete for strategic control of their playing fields, with victory going to the first player who controls their entire field.

Build your faction by recruiting animals, promoting leaders, purchasing equipment, finding locations, enlisting legendary animals, and befriending human allies. These options give each player different ways to develop their side while challenging opponents and expanding their influence.

Throughout the game, players track two important tallies: Favor and Fury. Favor represents how much “pull” a player has with humanity, while Fury reflects how much of a threat humanity believes that player is. Attacking opponents increases Fury, creating opportunities as well as danger.

Fury can unlock the sinister Dark Nature cards, but accumulating too much Fury can eliminate a player from the game. Managing this tension is central to each faction’s approach: aggression may provide powerful advantages, yet it can also make you a target.

  • Farm: well-balanced animals with strong knowledge of how to use Dark Nature cards.
  • Forest: animals with little interaction with humanity, but considerable fighting ability.
  • Battle Box: two 70-card faction decks, one for Farm and one for Forest.

Choose between the adaptable Farm animals and the formidable Forest animals, then fight for control while weighing the benefits and risks of your growing Fury. Nature of the Beast: Farm vs. Forest can also integrate with Nature of the Beast: City vs. Suburb and Nature of the Beast: Prairie vs. Polar.
