About this expansion
Netrunner: Classic is a two-player card game expansion for 45-minute sessions, released in 1999. Also known as Classic or v2.2, it was the second and final Netrunner expansion.
Released more than three years after Proteus, this mini-expansion contains only 52 cards, sold in 8-card boosters. The set features cards originally designed for Silent Impact, an unreleased expansion that never reached stores after WOTC discontinued the game.
Classic introduces new card types that expand the choices available during play. Double Preps and Double Operations each require two consecutive actions to play, but provide larger rewards in return.
- Double Preps and Double Operations offer higher rewards while taking two consecutive actions.
- Deflectors are a new ice type for the Corp.
- Deflectors can send the Runner to another data fort, creating a misleading route through the Corp’s defenses.
These Double cards were designed to speed up game play and make room for more powerful cards in deck design. Deflectors add another way for the Corp to redirect the Runner, sending them down the wrong rabbit hole and toward a different data fort.
Alongside its gameplay innovations, Netrunner: Classic carries special historical significance. It hints at developments that would never be fully explored and marks the end of WOTC’s Netrunner game.
Because of its extremely limited release, the set is highly sought after. For players and collectors interested in the final chapter of the original Netrunner line, Classic stands out as a small but notable expansion.
