About this board game

Nouvelles ContRées is a cooperative literary exploration game for 2–6 players, played in about 60 minutes. Together, you become novel explorers, travelling through the words of a book until you reach its incredible hidden meaning.

To begin, choose a book from your library with at least 60 pages. Place the Camp, represented by a bookmark, somewhere in the book, then prepare to move toward a Lost City bookmark located farther ahead.

Each round, one player becomes the Pagefinder. They read the first six lines of one page of any eligible book. The other players then study four face-up, fully illustrated bookmarks and try to identify the one chosen by the Pagefinder.

• Find the correct bookmark to guide the group through the jungle of words.
• Advance the Camp through the pages of the book when everyone succeeds.
• Attempt individual missions involving features of the text, such as words containing a particular letter or words related to nature.

The group’s shared progress is only part of the challenge. While exploring, each player can pursue a personal mission, adding another way to engage with the page and its language.

Success depends on reaching and exploring the Lost City, then gaining access to the Hidden Meaning of the book. With its cooperative guessing, illustrated bookmarks, and direct interaction with the text, Nouvelles ContRées turns reading into a dreamlike journey across literary landscapes.
