About this board game

Numberwang± is a four-player trick-taking game played in about 60 minutes, combining a must-follow structure with a trump suit that cannot be led until it has been broken.

Before each hand, everyone looks at the players’ cards and bids how many tricks they expect each player to take. Since the table has seen the cards, straightforward predictions may not be the best approach. Counterintuitive bids and unexpected plays can disrupt what other players think will happen.

Numberwang± turns bidding into a shared incentive contest. You score points when your predictions are exactly right, while successful disruption can also earn bonus points by forcing other players to miss their bids. The result is a simple trick-taking framework with an unusual layer of collective pressure.

  • Must-follow trick-taking: Players follow suit when required while competing for tricks.
  • Restricted trump: The trump suit cannot be led until it has been broken.
  • Open information: Bids are made after players examine the hands.
  • Shared incentives: Your choices can reward accurate predictions and punish missed bids.

Each hand asks you to balance your own target against the opportunities created by everyone else’s predictions. A bid can be valuable not only because it reflects what you expect, but also because it may influence how the rest of the table plays.

Using a standard deck of cards, Numberwang± offers a focused competition for exactly four players. Earn the most points across the game to win, and prepare to play Numberwang!
