About this board game
Nyctophobia: Vampire Encounter is a 3–5 player hidden-navigation game that takes about 45 minutes to play. One player becomes a vampire hunting the others, who must find and rescue their kidnapped friend in a dark forest.
The hunted players wear blackout glasses, making it impossible to see where they are or where they have been. They must navigate the board through touch and memory alone while trying to outsmart the vampire and make their way back to the car.
Only the vampire can see what is happening around the board. This creates tense, disorienting encounters as the vampire tracks the group and controls the familiar, the friend hidden somewhere in the forest. The vampire can also control the player who is leading the group out, creating tricky situations for everyone navigating in the dark.
- Blind navigation using touch and memory
- A vampire player who can see the entire situation
- A kidnapped familiar to locate and rescue
- Two preset maps to work through
Players must cooperate through limited information and careful movement, searching for the familiar while trying to ensure that nobody dies. Every turn brings the threat of becoming lost, separated, or caught by the bloodsucker.
As a vampire-themed entry in the Nyctophobia series, Nyctophobia: Vampire Encounter replaces the original game’s axe murderer or mage hunter with a vampire and adds new control over the familiar and the escape route.
