About this board game
Oceania is a tile-laying exploration game for 1–2 players, with games lasting about 30 minutes. Each play creates a different seascape, as players discover and shape a changing arrangement of islands.
On your turn, place an explorer ship on a circle field along one of the three sides of the game board, then draw a sea tile. The tile can be placed when it fits the landscape: water must border water, and land must border land.
As the game develops, the board reveals a fascinating network of waters and islands. Because the size and arrangement of the islands changes from game to game, every expedition presents a new set of challenges and opportunities.
- Tile placement built around matching water and land borders
- A changing board with different island layouts in every game
- A competitive 2-player variant focused on claiming large islands
- A solo variant with a personal high-score challenge
In the 2-player game, you and your opponent compete to claim the biggest islands in Oceania. The most successful explorer becomes the victor, making each placement part of a contest for valuable territory.
The solo variant lets you explore at your own pace while still providing a clear challenge. Seek out larger, more valuable islands and try to beat your own record score. Originally released in 2004, Oceania offers a compact exploration experience in which the unfolding board is different every time you play.
