About this board game
Octi is a unique abstract strategy game for 2–4 players, with play taking about 30 minutes. Its objective is to move your pieces into your opponent’s starting points, creating a focused contest of movement, planning, and positional decisions.
Each move presents an important choice. Players decide whether to bring in new pieces, upgrade existing pieces, or move one of their pieces. These options give every turn a distinct character and make the game an ongoing exercise in evaluating possibilities.
Octi features several standout movement and interaction systems:
- Multiple jumping for extended movement opportunities
- Capturing as part of the game’s strategic play
- Special movement that adds further possibilities
- A choice each turn between bringing in pieces, upgrading them, or moving
The range of available choices is staggering, and each move can present an entirely new way of thinking about the position. Rather than following a single fixed pattern, players continually weigh how to develop their pieces and pursue the objective of reaching the opposing starting points.
First released in 1999, Octi offers an abstract strategy experience for a small group of players. The rules also include a four-player teams variant, providing an additional way to play with four participants. Whether played as a two-player contest or with the team variant, Octi centers on flexible decisions, jumping, capturing, upgrades, and special movement.
