About this board game

Odyssey is a trick-taking game for 3–4 players that plays in around 30 minutes, sending soldiers on a perilous journey across the Mediterranean after the Trojan War.

Each player is trying to return home to Ithaca, but the voyage is shaped by the whims of the gods. Players must earn offerings and carefully manage divine favor while avoiding the consequences of too much pride or neglected rituals.

Odyssey gives players more than one way to choose their cards. Cards can be played from a player’s hand or from a shared field, creating additional timing decisions as the journey unfolds. Winning exactly the right number of tricks allows a player to advance their ship along the board.

  • Trick-taking gameplay for 3–4 players
  • Cards played from a hand or shared field
  • Ship movement based on winning the right number of tricks
  • Offerings and divine favor that shape progress
  • Unpredictable divine influence that can hinder the voyage

Progress is tied to the offerings gathered along the way, so every trick matters. Taking too many or too few can affect a player’s ability to advance, making precise planning as important as winning.

Strategic timing and risk management are central to the race. Players must judge when to pursue progress, when to respect the gods, and how much uncertainty they can accept before divine wrath delays their return.

With its combination of shared-card choices, exact trick targets, and shifting divine influence, Odyssey creates a tense race to be the first player to make it home.
