About this board game
Offerings is a board game for 3–5 players, played in about 60 minutes. Set in 430 B.C., during the era of the Peloponnesian War, it places the cities of Greece in a struggle to gain the favor of the Gods and Goddesses of Olympus.
Famine and plague have struck, so players must gather the offerings and materials needed for a sumptuous ritual sacrifice. Each city seeks to honor Olympus with a more impressive offering than its rivals, earning devotion points from the gods.
The game unfolds across three phases:
- Bidding: Recruit the offerings and materials required for your ritual by bidding against the other players. To obtain what you need, you must outbid your opponents.
- Corruption: Obtain important offerings in another way by stealing them from your opponents. This phase can provide access to materials that are essential to your plans.
- Ritual sacrifice: Offer your gathered materials to honor the Gods and Goddesses of Olympus, gaining devotion points for the most sumptuous sacrifice you can make.
As the game progresses, the number of altars available in the temple becomes smaller. Players must therefore outwit one another and complete their most impressive ritual sacrifices before all the altars run out.
Offerings combines competitive bidding, opponent theft, and a race to perform sacrifices while the temple’s limited altars disappear. In the end, only one player will gain the favor of the Gods.
