Olé!

About this board game

Olé! is a card game for 3–8 players that takes about 30 minutes to play. The aim is simple: get rid of every card in your hand before your opponents do, while navigating a constantly changing challenge of suit and numeric value.

The deck contains four suits. Two suits contain cards numbered 1 through 12, while the other two contain cards numbered 1 through 15. The suits have a ranking from high to low, with the two fifteen-card suits positioned in the middle of that order.

On each turn, play a card onto the last card played. Your play is legal when the card is higher in either suit or numeric value. A card that beats the previous card in both categories creates an additional demand: you must play another card under the same restrictions.

• Play a card higher in suit or value than the last card.
• Play again when your card beats the last card in both categories.
• Take a penalty when you cannot make a legal play.
• End the hand by playing your entire hand.

When one player empties their hand, the hand ends immediately. Everyone else scores the value of the cards remaining in their hand, making every stranded card matter as the game progresses.

During later hands, the player with the highest score—the current loser—gets a useful choice. That player can decide to reverse the suit order, or mirror it, to make their hand better. This shifting advantage gives Olé! a distinctive way to balance the game while keeping each hand focused on timing, card comparisons, and hand management.
