On to Richmond II: The Union Strikes South is a 1–2 player Civil War campaign game with an approximately 1,200-minute play time, covering three major campaigns in a single module for the Great Campaigns of the American Civil War series.

This collection revises two established campaigns and introduces a completely new one. On To Richmond II covers the 1862 Richmond Campaign, while Grant Takes Command II covers the 1864 Overland Campaign. The new Petersburg Campaign follows the battles that began when Grant marched across the James River in June 1864 and ended with the Confederate defeat at Five Forks in April 1865.

Across the three modules, Richmond & Petersburg Campaigns includes twenty-five Basic Game scenarios and seven Advanced Game campaigns. The scenarios and campaigns have been rebalanced or extensively revised where needed, while the Petersburg content adds entirely new situations covering its long series of battles.

• On To Richmond II: one new Basic Game scenario, seven redesigned and rebalanced original Basic scenarios, and a substantially revised Advanced Game campaign scenario.
• Grant Takes Command II: eight original Basic Game scenarios rebalanced as needed and four original Advanced Game campaigns.
• The Petersburg Campaign: nine Basic Game scenarios and two Advanced Game scenarios.

The four included maps were painted by original map artist Charlie Kibler and significantly revised with the latest GCACW terrain types, including hills, swamps, dams, trails, and landings. Additional map area covers the western portion of the Petersburg battles, and redesigned unit counters give the game a modern treatment inspired by the original series.

Note that the two grand campaigns require the Stonewall In The Valley maps, which are not included. Released in 2023, On to Richmond II offers a substantial collection of linked Civil War campaign scenarios for fans of the GCACW system.
