About this board game

Outburst is a fast-paced party game for 2–99 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. It combines rapid-fire brainstorming, team competition, and everyday or pop-culture trivia.

In each round, one team draws a Topic Card featuring 10 pre-listed answers. The team has 60 seconds to shout out as many of those answers as possible, earning points for every correct response. A die determines the Target Answer, which awards bonus points when guessed.

The opposing team checks the guesses with the card viewer, which keeps the answer list hidden until it is revealed. This lets one team race against the clock while the other verifies whether the shouted responses match the answers on the card.

A typical round follows this sequence:

  • Draw a Topic Card with a list of 10 answers.
  • Use 60 seconds to call out as many correct answers as possible.
  • Verify the guesses using the card viewer.
  • Award points for correct answers, including the bonus for the die-selected Target Answer.

Topics range from pop culture to familiar trivia, including examples such as “10 Cars Rich People Drive” and “Famous Dogs.” Often compared to Family Feud, Outburst also inspired the Canadian game show Talk About, which later received its own home game from Pressman.

Originally released in 1986, Outburst has appeared in several editions. Earlier versions contain more dated cultural references, while newer releases, including Parker Brothers’ 2016 edition, update the topics for modern players.
