About this board game

Panzer North Africa is a 1–3 player World War II combat game with an approximate play time of 180 minutes. It recreates small-formation armored and infantry actions in the North African desert from mid-1940 to late 1942.

Players can command German, Italian, or British forces and re-fight key engagements across 32 scenarios. As a stand-alone game, it requires no previous ownership of other Panzer games or modules, making it accessible to both Panzer veterans and newcomers.

The system is designed for actions involving formations from platoon to battalion size. Vehicles, towed guns, and aircraft are represented at a 1:1 scale, with each 7/8-inch double-sided counter depicting a single unit. Leg units use 5/8-inch double-sided counters representing squads, half-squads, and sections, including their attached weapons.

  • Rules for solo play, with dedicated solitaire scenarios
  • German, Italian, and British units
  • Six double-sided geomorphic mapboards, providing 12 mapboards in total
  • Die-cut map terrain overlays for customizing engagement maps
  • A streamlined chit-based command system designed to keep the action moving at a brisk pace

Panzer North Africa also includes the same solo mode used in Panzer: Game Expansion Set, Nr 4 – France 1940. Its combination of scenario variety, unit-scale detail, and flexible map construction supports a broad range of North African engagements.

In 2024, Panzer North Africa won the Charles S. Roberts Awards for Game of the Year, Best WWII Game, and Best Tactical Game.
