About this board game
Patchwork Doodle is a roll-and-write game for 1–6 players that takes about 20 minutes. Each player fills a personal 9×9 grid with polyomino shapes, aiming to cover as much space as possible.
To begin, each player draws a unique polyomino card from the starting deck and draws that shape on their sheet. In each round, several polyomino cards are arranged in a circle, with the rabbit placed between two cards. A die roll determines how far the rabbit moves, and the indicated card is removed.
Every player must draw the polyomino shown on the selected card in their own grid. Once a set number of cards has been played, the round ends and players score points before a new group of cards is laid out. The shared card selection gives everyone the same shape to work with, while each grid creates its own placement challenge.
Patchwork Doodle also gives every player four special actions to use during the game. Each can be marked off when used, with the repeat action providing a second use of one of the other options:
- Draw the card before or after the selected card.
- Cut a polyomino into two pieces, then add one piece to your grid.
- Fill one 1×1 space in your grid.
- Use one of the previous actions a second time.
At the end, you lose one point for every uncovered space. Pack your polyominoes as tightly as possible, make thoughtful use of your limited special actions, and turn the available shapes into a high-scoring completed grid.
