About this board game
Patronize is a trick-taking game for 3–5 players, with a play time of about 20 minutes. Set in Renaissance Toscana, it casts players as wealthy merchants competing to become more famous by supporting talented individuals.
In this Italia without a central government, the nobles who once held power have fallen. Traders with money are climbing the ladder of power, using their finances to become patrons who aid and protect talented people in their endeavors.
Players control individuals with talents in fields including religion, arts, science, and exploration. The competition is intense: another rich merchant may claim the person you intended to patronize, snatching your prospective protégé from under your nose.
Patronize features 17 types of people cards, each with a different ability. These varied abilities add character to the competition while the trick-taking mechanisms shape how merchants contend for influence and fame.
