About this board game
Phantom Fury: Second Edition is a solitaire tactical urban-combat game for one player, with an approximately 120-minute playing time. Set during the Second Battle of Fallujah in November 2004, it places you in control of a US Marine Corps battalion fighting to clear city zones of insurgent control.
The game emphasizes real-life urban warfare tactics. Choose different ways to assault buildings and position assets to hinder enemy sniper fire or reinforce key positions. As your forces advance through the city, hidden insurgent elements appear, while snipers target Marines moving from street to street.
You may not know what awaits you until you launch a direct assault. Opponents can include Guerrillas, who are ready to evade through pre-planned escape routes; Martyrs, who fight to the death; or false leads that reveal no actual enemy force. The Second Edition adds greater variability to insurgent strengths, creating further uncertainty during each advance.
To support your assaults, Phantom Fury: Second Edition provides stand-off assets such as UAVs and close air support, along with close-combat assistance from Combined Anti-Armour Teams and Abrams tanks. Optional rules add insurgent direct-fire and RPG attacks, as well as local population and civilian effects. Two additional game variants introduce troubles that can block the US player.
- A single-sided map depicting part of the Jolan District
- More than 200 counters for USMC squads, insurgents, markers, troubles, and population
- A rulebook, player aid, and ten-sided die
If the USMC does not control every zone by the end of the game, you lose. If you succeed, calculate victory points from the time taken and friendly and insurgent losses to determine whether your operation achieved a major, minor, or costly victory.
