About this board game

Philosophia: Dare to be Wise is a sandbox tabletop adventure for 1–6 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. Set in the world of Ancient Greece, it challenges players to become the era’s greatest thinkers through exploration, wisdom, public debate, and carefully chosen actions.

The goal is to gain three Labyrinth Tokens before the ancient Greek world is superseded by the Romans. There is no single route to success: you might build a following across the regions of Greece, hire builders to create schools devoted to your teachings, or research ideas in temples to unlock ancient wisdom cards.

• Build a following in the current region of Ancient Greece; nine of these unlock a Labyrinth Token.
• Construct four schools dedicated to your teachings to unlock another Labyrinth Token.
• Research in Greek temples and collect three ancient wisdom cards to earn a token.
• Visit Oracles to gain unique powers through card drafting.
• Compete in a blind auction for the favour of Athena, goddess of wisdom.

On each turn, you move and take one action, keeping downtime limited and avoiding upkeep phases. With 13 actions and more than 30 unique paths to victory, Philosophia encourages replayable decisions in a richly themed setting of city states, ancient wisdom, and Olympic Gods.

Every player who reaches three Labyrinth Tokens enters a tense final public debate. Using the Syllogism and Sophistry cards gathered during the game, thinkers face off with a distinctive twist on the Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock mechanism. Only one can be crowned the greatest mind of the era.
