About this board game
Phoenicia is a board game for 2–5 players, with a playing time of approximately 90 minutes, about building an empire worthy of an entry into the annals of time.
Set in the buffer areas and crossroads between civilizations, the game invites you to take the role of a clever ruler. These regions can provide opportunities to adopt new ideas, establish trade, and found a city-state capable of outlasting neighbouring empires.
Your progress depends on developing a strong foundation for your growing realm. You must build up your economy and increase your population while holding all others at bay. Rival neighbouring countries will challenge you as you compete to reach the next technology advancement.
- Support the growth of your economy.
- Increase your population.
- Establish trade and adopt new ideas.
- Compete for the next technology advancement needed to feed your population.
The game’s setting evokes the great Phoenician cities of Tyre and Sidon, whose influence could outlast many surrounding empires. This provides the historical inspiration for a contest focused on expansion, progress, and endurance.
Some of Phoenicia’s mechanics were inspired by Outpost. Released in 2007, Phoenicia offers a substantial board game experience for groups of two to five players, combining economic development, population growth, trade, technological advancement, and pressure from neighbouring countries into one struggle to establish a lasting city-state.
