About this expansion

Photosynthesis: Under the Moonlight is an expansion for 2–4 players with a 60-minute play time, adding moonlight, lunar points, and forest animal powers to the world of Photosynthesis.

As the moon turns in the opposite direction from the sun, its light moves across the woods. Players collect lunar points for their chosen forest animal, then use those points to activate special powers and shape their strategy.

Each player chooses one of eight animals, creating new tactical possibilities during the game. Some of the featured abilities include:

• The boar collects trees.
• The hedgehog plants seeds.
• The fox steals and moves seeds.
• The owl turns lunar points into sun points.

Position your animal carefully by the moonstones and decide when to activate its capabilities. Timing matters, and the shifting moonlight adds another consideration as you develop your forest.

You must also be careful not to leave your animal in the shadow of the Great Elder Tree for too long. Managing lunar points, animal abilities, moonstone positioning, and the changing light creates a fresh strategic layer for Photosynthesis.

Designed to enhance the original experience, Photosynthesis: Under the Moonlight requires the base game to play. Released in 2020, it offers a moonlit extension to the forest-building strategy of the original game.
