Piepmatz: Little Songbirds

About this board game

Piepmatz: Little Songbirds is a bird-collecting game for 2–4 players that plays in about 40 minutes. Play bird cards to perches, gather seeds and birds at the feeder, and build a collection that scores in several ways.

On each turn, you choose a bird card from your hand and place it face up at a perch of your choice. You then compare the birds on the ground with the bird at that perch to resolve its effects. Depending on the result, you take a seed card or add a bird to your collection, then move a bird to the feeder.

Every turn follows the same three phases:

1. Play a card: Place one bird card from your hand face up at a perch.
2. Resolve effects: Compare the birds, take a seed card or add a bird to your collection, and move a bird to the feeder.
3. Draw new cards: Replenish your hand.

The end of the game is triggered when a player is supposed to draw from an empty feeder deck. Play continues until everyone has taken the same number of turns. Each player then chooses two bird cards from their hand and discards them face down. Afterward, the remaining two cards go into each player’s collection.

Scoring rewards seeds and mated pairs of birds. Single birds score only when you have the most birds of their species, making species majorities another route to points. In Piepmatz: Little Songbirds, the player with the most points wins.
