About this board game

Pies is a quick, 20-minute trick-taking game for 3–5 players, played across three rounds of fruit-card play. Your goal is to collect combinations of ingredients and create the most valuable pie mixes by the end of the game.

Each round consists of six tricks, or five tricks in a five-player game. In every trick, each player plays one card. The player who plays the highest-value card drafts one card from the trick into their display, followed by the other players in descending order of card value.

The final player in the drafting order also receives a Plum card. This extra card is part of the distinctive trick resolution in Pies, adding another ingredient to the displays as players work toward their pie combinations.

• Play fruit cards over three rounds.
• Draft from each trick according to card value.
• Use special actions to steal fruit cards or protect your fruit.
• Build valuable pie mixes from collected ingredients.

Special actions can be triggered during the process, giving players opportunities to steal fruit cards from one another. Players can also call the dog to protect their fruit from other thieves, creating another way to influence what remains in their displays.

After the final round, players compare the value of their pie mixes. The player with the most valuable mixes wins. With its compact play time and focused three-round structure, Pies serves up a fast contest of trick-taking, drafting, and fruit collection.
