Planetoid

About this board game

Planetoid is a quick tile-based resource game for 1–4 players, with a play time of about 40 minutes. Each player becomes a space miner searching for valuable resources and bonuses while competing to earn the most points.

Explore the planetoid by choosing one of three actions. Drill to take a tile and reveal all adjacent tiles, Scan to look at two tiles before returning them and powering up a secondary drill for later, or Move to return all collected resources to the cargo bay.

Returning resources can do more than secure your haul. If the resources match one of eight randomly selected bonuses, you may collect that bonus as well. This creates an ongoing choice between searching for high-value gems and pursuing bonus combinations.

• Drill: Take a tile and reveal adjacent tiles.
• Scan: Look at two tiles and prepare a secondary drill for later use.
• Move: Return your collected resources to the cargo bay and check for matching bonuses.

Play continues until all tiles have been revealed or all bonuses have been acquired. The player with the most points wins, rewarding careful exploration, valuable finds, and well-timed deliveries.

An advanced mode adds more strategic choices through energy management. Use energy for multiple cheap actions or commit more energy to larger actions, including actions that can break systems. Broken systems cannot be used again until they are fixed on a later turn. This mode also gives each player secret bonuses, adding another layer of planning to Planetoid’s race for the highest score.
