About this board game
Plateau is a two-player abstract strategy game from 1986, designed for a 45-minute play time. It combines changing movement abilities with hidden information, creating a tense contest of planning, deception, and adaptation.
Each playing piece has colored rings attached to its top and bottom faces. The color currently showing indicates how that piece moves, so the visible ring provides important information about its capabilities.
At the start of your move, you may flip the top piece in a stack over. This changes how that piece moves and gives you a way to transform your position during play. However, your opponent is not allowed to look underneath your pieces, keeping the hidden ring—and the movement possibility it represents—out of sight.
This concealed information creates a significant bluffing element. You must interpret the visible pieces, anticipate transformations, and decide how much confidence to place in what your opponent appears able to do. Plateau also offers two different ways to win, adding another layer of uncertainty to the struggle.

- Approximately 45 minutes per game
