About this board game

Pocket Battles: Confederacy vs Union is a two-player war game with 30-minute play time, released in 2014. In this compact battle, the Confederacy and Union face off with armies built from a pool of troop tiles.

First, decide the size of the battle and how many points each army receives. Tiles represent troops, while troops combine to form units. Each tile hits on certain rolls, with some troops limited to melee and others able to shoot. Special traits can influence an entire unit or army.

  • Build your own army from available troops.
  • Arrange the army across three columns and two rows.
  • Use Order Tokens to activate units and launch attacks.
  • Redeploy units between battle rounds without spending Order Tokens.

On your turn, choose which faction of your army to send into battle. If a unit has no Order Tokens, issuing its first order costs one token. Activating that same unit again in the Battle Round costs additional tokens based on the number already placed there, creating a simple system for managing repeated actions.

After each round, you may redeploy units: move a unit from the back to the front of its row, from the back of one row to the back of another, or from the front of one row to the front of another. The battle ends when one army has eliminated at least half of the points in the opposing army.

With its tile-based armies, roll-based attacks, and focused Order Token system, Pocket Battles: Confederacy vs Union delivers a complete battlefield in a pocket-sized format.
