About this board game
PRESTAGS Master-Pack is a two-player tactical warfare simulation system with an approximately 180-minute play time, released in 1976. It combines five complete games covering military systems from 3000 B.C. to 1550 A.D., before the predominance of firearms.
The system is based on the respected Musket & Pike system, with modifications and special rules designed to show how warfare differed across historical periods. Each game presents tactical situations faced by leaders of great battles from its period.
- CHARIOT: Tactical Warfare in the “Biblical” Age, 3000-500 B.C.
- SPARTAN: Tactical Warfare in the Hellenistic Age, 500-100 B.C.
- LEGION: Tactical Warfare in the Roman Age, 100 B.C.-700 A.D.
- VIKING: Tactical Warfare in the Dark Ages, 700-1300.
- YEOMAN: Tactical Warfare in the Renaissance Age, 1250-1550.
All five titles are compatible because their unit strength values were derived from the same base. This allows units from one game to be used with another and makes it possible to trace the evolution of tactics across the full span of the series.
The complete PRESTAGS Master-Pack includes maps and rules for each game, together with PRESTAGS rules covering the series as a whole. Each individual game includes 400 counters, for a total of 2,000 counters, and the set is supplied in two SPI flat packs.
With its broad historical scope and unified rules foundation, PRESTAGS Master-Pack presents five connected views of pre-seventeenth-century tactical warfare in one collection.
