About this board game

PÜNCT is a two-player connection game with an approximately 30-minute play time, in which players aim to connect two opposite sides of the board.

The objective is direct: create a connection between the board’s two opposite sides. Every turn contributes to that goal through one of two available actions, giving the game a clear and focused structure.

A player’s turn consists of either bringing a new piece into play or moving one that is already on the board. This means that pieces already in the game remain part of the action, while new pieces can also be introduced during play.

  • Bring a new piece into play.
  • Move a piece already on the board.

These two turn options define the central play of PÜNCT. Players work toward the same stated connection objective while deciding whether their turn should add something new to the board or reposition an existing piece.

As a connection game, PÜNCT is built around a single, easy-to-identify aim: connect the two opposite sides of the board. The combination of placement and movement gives the game its distinctive framework without changing that central objective.

Released in 2005, PÜNCT is the fifth released game by design in project GIPF. It is part of that project alongside the other games included within it.

For two players seeking a game centered on connection, PÜNCT presents a compact rules concept: bring pieces into play, move pieces already on the board, and pursue a connection between opposite sides.
