About this board game
Quads is a tile placement game for exactly two players, with a playing time of about 10 minutes. Each turn, players place tiles by matching the details shown along their edges.
Every tile features different combinations of colors and lines at its four edges. Colors are either black or silver, while lines are either parallel or perpendicular to the tile edge. These features create the matching possibilities that shape each placement.
- Two-player tile placement
- Black or silver edge colors
- Parallel or perpendicular edge lines
- Matching against adjacent tiles
On a turn, a player places a tile so that the color or line on each edge matches the corresponding feature of any adjacent tiles. As the arrangement develops, every placement affects the spaces that remain available and the options that may be open to the other player.
The objective in Quads is not to complete a particular shape or reach a stated score. Instead, players compete to make placements while preserving their own opportunities and limiting their opponent’s. The winner is the player who stops the opponent from being able to place a tile.
With its compact playing time and clear edge-matching rules, Quads presents a focused contest for two. Players must examine the black and silver colors, compare parallel and perpendicular lines, and consider how each tile fits with its neighbors before committing to a placement.
