Quando

About this board game

Quando is a card game for 2–6 players that plays in about 15 minutes. Your goal is to score as few points as possible in each round—ideally none—while deciding when to end the action.

The 55-card deck is double-sided, with digits from 0 to 10 appearing in every combination on cards whose digits always differ. Depending on the number of players, each player begins with 7 or 8 cards and looks only at the side currently facing them.

On your turn, choose one of two ways to discard cards:

• Discard a straight of exactly three consecutive numbers.
• Discard one or more cards showing the same value.

Then draw one card from the deck. When you draw, you may add it with its revealed side facing you or flip it to the other side. Once flipped, a card cannot be flipped back. If you play exactly three cards with the same number, every other player must either flip a zero in their hand or draw a card.

A round ends immediately if a player has only zeros in hand at the end of their turn and reveals them. Otherwise, a player may knock, giving each other player one final turn. Players then add the values in their hands: the player with the lowest sum scores 0, while everyone else scores their sum. A player who knocks without having the lowest sum receives an additional 5-point penalty.

Play multiple rounds until someone reaches 50 or more points. The player with the lowest total score wins, making Quando a compact contest of card management, timing, and carefully chosen discards.
