About this board game

Quartermaster General: 1914 is a strategic First World War game for 2–5 players, with play lasting about 120 minutes. It creates a narrative of the war in Europe while reflecting the military, technological, and social changes that unfolded over four years.

Every card offers two different uses: play it for an immediate effect or prepare it for another purpose. On your turn, you can both play and prepare a card, giving you meaningful choices as you develop your position and respond to your opponents.

  • Use cards to play powerful effects or prepare for future opportunities.
  • Spend cards to draft more troops.
  • Use cards to inflict attrition on opposing forces.
  • Manage your deck as the overall resource supporting your armies.

Timing is central to Quartermaster General: 1914. Moving too quickly through your deck may leave your armies unsupported in the final rounds, but an early gamble can be worthwhile if it lets you capture Berlin or Paris in 1915. If that gambit fails, however, you may face a difficult road ahead.

The game lasts up to 17 rounds, unless one side achieves a commanding lead sooner. Each decision asks you to weigh immediate momentum against the resources you will need later, creating a tense struggle across the changing landscape of the First World War.

Released in 2016, Quartermaster General: 1914 combines accessible card choices with long-term resource management and a sweeping wartime narrative.
