Qwinto: Das Kartenspiel

About this board game

Qwinto: Das Kartenspiel is a card game for 1–4 players that takes about 20 minutes to play. Based on the Qwinto dice game, it challenges players to create numbers from 1 to 18 and place them carefully on individual score sheets.

Each score sheet contains three colored rows: orange, yellow, and purple. Numbers in each row must increase from left to right, with no duplicates. The two- and three-space columns formed by the rows also cannot contain repeated numbers, though their numbers may appear in any order.

The game includes 32 cards numbered 0–6 and -2 in yellow, orange, purple, and gray. Players begin with three cards, while four cards are arranged in a 2×2 square. On a turn, the active player plays a card from their hand onto a card in the square, then adds that card to the two adjacent cards. They announce the resulting number and the colors of all non-gray cards.

Every player may then write the announced number in a matching colored row. If the result is below 1, or if all the cards involved are gray, nobody can write a number. When the active player cannot make a legal entry, they must mark a penalty box instead. Matching numbers in hand can also be played in adjacent spaces, potentially changing the sum dramatically.

A player refills their hand to three cards at the end of their turn. The game ends when a player fills two rows or all four penalty spaces. Full rows score according to their rightmost number, while incomplete rows score one point per number. Completed three-space columns score their pentagon values, and each penalty costs 5 points.
