About this board game
Qwords is a word-building dice game for 1–15 players that takes about 20 minutes to play. First released in 2013, it combines colorful letter dice with quick decisions and a 5×5 grid on each player sheet.
On every turn, all five dice are rolled: four letter dice in different colors and one black die. The black die shows a combination of two colors, indicating which two letter dice are available for the turn.
Each player chooses one of the letters showing on those two indicated dice and writes it in an empty space on their sheet. Across 25 turns, players gradually fill their grids while considering how their choices may form words in both directions.
- Roll four colored letter dice and one black color-combination die.
- Use the black die to identify the two available letter dice.
- Choose a letter and place it in an empty space in your 5×5 grid.
- Score the longest word created in every row and column.
Once the grid is complete, players score their longest word in each row and column. A word of two letters is worth 1 point, while words of three, four, and five letters score 3, 6, and 10 points respectively.
Qwords rewards careful letter placement without requiring a long game. After the final scoring, the player with the most points wins.
