About this board game

Radetzky’s March: The Hundred Hours Campaign is a one- or two-player game about the 1849 campaign and the bloody Battle of Novara, played across turns representing three hours and lasting two to six hours.

On a carefully researched map covering the region at 1 kilometer per hex, Piedmontese and Austrian forces maneuver toward a decisive confrontation. The Piedmontese seek to cross the Ticino and advance toward Milan, while Field Marshal Radetzky’s daring plan concentrates Austrian forces near Pavia for an invasion of Piedmont.

The game represents the military forces of the period with counters for Hussars, Uhlans, Dragoons, Line Infantry, Grenzer, Jäger, Artillery, Bersaglieri, Pontoon Crew, and Commanders. Units operate at regimental scale, including their guns, battalions, or two squadrons of cavalry.

At the heart of the system is random activation. Players check their available command points, choose the formations they will activate, place them in a mug, and then mix and draw them. This creates uncertainty and avoids a conventional two-turn structure, making every game tense and unpredictable.

  • Fight the full 1849 campaign or explore shorter scenarios.
  • Use attacks, retreats, cavalry charges, strategic movement, and pontoon building.
  • Play scenarios including Mortara and the Sforzesca, Novara, and Ramorino obeys orders.

Radetzky’s March combines accessible complexity with a detailed historical setting. Its scenarios and variants allow different strategies while focusing on the campaign’s movement, command decisions, and decisive battles.
