About this board game

Railroad Barons is a two-player strategy game played in about 45 minutes, elevating the 18xx formula to the level of major holding companies rather than individual railways.

There is no game board, map, or route tiles. Instead, players buy and sell stock in holding companies, seeking control of the strongest portfolios while using weaker companies to gain every possible advantage over their opponent.

Holding companies acquire railroad companies and use them to generate revenue. The five holdings each feature a 40% Director’s share, plus 30%, 20%, and 10% shares, making the stock market central to both control and investment.

Early investments do not remain safe forever. Assets that produce strong results at the beginning can quickly become obsolete, so successful players must plan ahead for future growth and investment rather than simply pursuing immediate returns.
