About this expansion

Red Storm: Dark Blue Defection is an unofficial solo expansion for GMT’s Red Storm – The Air War Over Germany, 1987, designed for one player and listed with a 240-minute play time. You take command of NATO while the Warsaw Pact forces are controlled by a dedicated bot system.

This fan expansion presents 10 connected scenarios played in sequence, with difficulty increasing as new rules are introduced. The structure is designed to help players learn the systems in Red Storm’s Rules of Play in a logical and engaging way.

Each scenario uses preset forces and requires no planning before play, supporting a faster setup and a focused solo experience. The scenarios are designed to be set up and played to conclusion in one evening, while still offering a progression of increasingly challenging air-combat situations.

  • Solo-only play for one player
  • Ten sequential scenarios with rising difficulty
  • Preset forces for quick setup and play
  • A modified solo bot controlling Warsaw Pact forces
  • Mission types including close air support, interdiction, SEAD, deep strike, raid defense, and air heist

The campaign features mission types drawn from Red Storm alongside the new air heist mission type. Across the sequence, players command NATO through challenging connected scenarios while the bot system manages the opposing Warsaw Pact forces.

Red Storm: Dark Blue Defection is not a GMT Games product. It is intended for use with Red Storm and offers a structured way to experience solo operational-level air combat over Germany through a compact series of escalating scenarios.
