About this board game

Regine is a card game of betting and bluffing for 2 to 4 players, with games lasting around 30 minutes. Set in the European courts of the late 16th century, it challenges players to become the first to reach 31 points.

Every round combines hand construction, betting, and point resolution. Players begin with four cards and try to create favorable combinations, but constant interaction means their hands are never entirely under control. Most card effects target rival players, making memory, observation, and timing essential.

  • Hand construction: Exchange cards, block further changes, play cards face up or face down, or pass.
  • Betting: Bid on scoring cards for queens and jesters, pairs and trios, and the total value of your cards.
  • Resolution: Reveal the cards and award points before beginning the next round.

Face-up cards can trigger powerful effects. The jester can cancel a previous “no changes” declaration, while the peasant forces a player to reveal and use a card. The assassin removes a card from the table, the courtesan reveals a face-down card, the herald lets a player inspect the top card of the deck, and the knight forces a hand change.

When betting begins, the strongest hand does not always win the most points. A confident bid can mislead opponents, while careful observation may expose a weak hand. If you know how to play Mus, some of Regine’s rules may feel familiar, but its courtly characters and direct attacks give each round its own twists.

With intuitive card design, quick turns, and interaction throughout, Regine offers an accessible challenge for families and friends ages 10 and up. Keep your rivals guessing, watch for flying daggers, and choose the right moment to push your luck.
