About this board game
Relic Runners is a jungle exploration board game for 2–5 players, with play lasting about 80 minutes. Each player becomes an archaeologist seeking the relics uncovered in a long-lost part of the jungle, competing to earn the most victory points.
Every archaeologist has a colorful past, from retired university professor to former army captain. To reach the temples, players must navigate a network of paths while managing their access to rations, which restrict movement. Players can also place markers on paths, allowing them to travel along those routes for free on future turns.
Exploration becomes more flexible through a personal toolkit. This toolkit can be upgraded in three particular ways, giving players opportunities to break movement rules or gain advantages as they travel through the jungle.
Whenever a player visits a temple, they take a token from it. At first, these tokens provide victory points or useful in-game bonuses. Once the final token has been taken from a temple, a relic is placed there, creating a valuable prize for the players to collect.
- Manage rations to navigate the jungle’s paths.
- Place path markers to make future travel free.
- Upgrade your toolkit for special advantages.
- Collect relics and score through set collection.
- Create long routes and earn bonus points by traveling along them.
Relics are worth large numbers of victory points when collected as different types, rewarding players who build varied collections. Long routes provide another way to score, especially when they help archaeologists travel between temples and claim newly revealed relics.
With movement planning, temple visits, toolkit upgrades, route building, and relic set collection all competing for attention, Relic Runners challenges players to decide how best to exploit each expedition through the jungle.
