About this board game

Renegade Legion: Interceptor is a tactical space-battle wargame for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. Released in 1987, it stages conflicts on a large hex map and gives its spacecraft a distinctive three-dimensional presence.

Players choose from a variety of ships, each offering its own advantages and disadvantages. The different capabilities create meaningful choices as you decide which vessels to bring into the battle and how to use their strengths while accounting for their weaknesses.

  • Thrust movement for maneuvering through space
  • Targeting to direct attacks
  • Variable weapons damage for uncertain combat results
  • Unique ship pieces made three-dimensional with little 1-inch cardboard boxes

Combat uses familiar tactical battle concepts while presenting them in a space setting. Movement, target selection, and weapon effects all contribute to the unfolding engagement, making the large hex map central to positioning and decision-making.

The physical ships are one of the game’s standout features. Rather than using only flat counters, Renegade Legion: Interceptor represents its vessels with pieces printed on small cardboard boxes, giving the fleet a notable 3D appearance on the table.

FASA also attempted to include optional role-playing aspects, offering an additional way to approach the game beyond its core tactical battles. Whether focusing on ship choices and combat systems or exploring those optional elements, players receive a space-battle experience built around maneuvering, targeting, and variable weapon damage.
