About this board game
Rick and Morty: Close Rick-Counters of the Rick Kind Deck-Building Game is a 2–5-player deck-building game with an approximately 70-minute play time, based on the episode “Close Rick-Counters of the Rick Kind.” Players play as and against different versions of Rick while building a better deck than their opponents.
Built on Cryptozoic’s Cerberus Engine, the game features various versions of Rick in two important roles. Each player has an oversized Hero card representing their Rick, while the Villainous Council of Ricks brings other versions of Rick into the game.
Every player begins with a deck containing seven Genius Waves cards, which provide Power, along with one Beth, one Jerry, and one Summer. The Beth, Jerry, and Summer cards do nothing on their own, but they can activate other cards and help support the combinations in your deck.
- Portal Gun stack: The familiar “Kick” stack from other Cerberus games is replaced by Portal Gun cards.
- Portal deck: Portal Guns activate this deck and transport a player’s hero to a random location.
- Locations: These destinations come from the episode or other popular places from the series.
After arriving at a location, the player may use it during their turn. They also have the option to pay the location’s cost and add it to their deck, creating another way to develop their cards as the game progresses.
With its rival Ricks, unusual starting cards, and Portal Gun-powered locations, Rick and Morty: Close Rick-Counters of the Rick Kind adapts the episode into a focused deck-building experience for fans of the series and the Cerberus Engine.
