About this board game

Rival Restaurants is a restaurant-themed board game for 2–6 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. Your goal is to be the first restaurant to reach 20 popularity points and earn the title of The Wiener!

Each day unfolds through three distinct phases. First, collect your income and choose where to move, keeping the economy in mind because your location locks in your movement for the rest of the day. Next, you have one minute to buy ingredients from your chosen location while also bartering and trading with any player in the game.

  1. Money and Move: Collect income and select your location for the day.
  2. Buy and Barter: Purchase ingredients and negotiate trades within the time limit.
  3. Cook and Counter: Complete a recipe when you have all its required ingredients and gain popularity points.

Ingredients are the key to completing recipes, and more advanced recipes are worth more popularity points. Timing your purchases, trades, and cooking opportunities is essential as you work toward the winning total.

Every player controls a chef with an individual chef power. These asymmetrical abilities let chefs bend the rules in their favor, creating different ways to approach the race. The base game includes twelve chefs to choose from.

At the beginning of a game of Rival Restaurants, each player also selects a restaurant. Every restaurant has a unique level-up structure, offering rewards when it reaches 3, 7, and 12 popularity points. Players may additionally buy action cards, which are development cards typically intended for one-time use.
