About this board game
Roulette-Taking Game is a trick-taking game for 2–4 players that plays in about 40 minutes. Each trick does more than determine a winner: it grants the player who takes it the right to place a bet on a roulette-type betting mat.
The focus of those bets is the card that wins the last trick. Players bet on that card’s rank and suit, creating a connection between the decisions made throughout the game and the final outcome. Every trick can therefore offer a new opportunity to influence the betting mat while building anticipation for the closing trick.
A new dealer leads each round, but the dealer does not participate in the bidding. This distinctive role helps shape the structure of each round while keeping the dealer separate from that part of play.
According to an apocryphal story included in the rules, Roulette-Taking Game is a taboo folk game from France that may only be played by locals. The story also says that the designer negotiated for 50 years to license it, adding an unusual fictional history to the game’s presentation.
Released in 2022, Roulette-Taking Game combines the familiar framework of trick-taking with roulette-style betting. Its central tension comes from earning the right to bet on individual tricks while keeping attention on the rank and suit of the card destined to win the final trick.
