About this board game
Rush Hour is a road-travel board game for 2–6 players with an approximately 60-minute playing time, first released in 1981. The goal is to travel from HOME to the OFFICE after dropping off your commuters at their respective places of employment.
Each journey begins with two commuters. Before leaving the Neighborhood Jaunt, you may have the opportunity to pick up additional commuters. The route then continues through one of two challenging stretches: the Interstate 500 or the Suburban Gauntlet.
Next comes the Beltway Expressway. Players carrying three or more commuters can use its Car Pool Express Lane, offering a special route for those with a fuller car. The final section is the Inner City Maze, bringing the trip toward its destination.
Movement normally uses two dice, but road signs can reduce the roll to a single die. This creates changing conditions as you progress, making each stretch of the journey part of the challenge.
For groups looking to add more complications, Rush Hour includes optional rules that bring extra traffic hazards and driving situations into play:
- Traffic Jams
- Fender Benders
- Public Parking
- Double Parking
- Baby Behind the Wheel
With commuter pickups, alternative routes, special road signs, and optional rules, Rush Hour turns an everyday drive from HOME to the OFFICE into a full board-game journey.
