About this board game
Russian Civil War 1918-1922 (Second Edition) is a multi-player wargame for 1–6 players, with games lasting around 240 minutes, covering the military and political conflict that reshaped Russia.
Set during the struggle that abolished the Czarist regime and laid the foundation of the modern Soviet Union, the game places players in control of one or more factions. The basic game is designed for three to six players, representing the revolutionary, counter-revolutionary, nationalist, and interventionist forces involved in the conflict.
This second edition is based on the original 1976 SPI version’s rules, counters, and map, while expanding the scope of the design. The map now includes Central Asia and Mongolia, broadening the geographical framework of the struggle.
- Additional units represent specialized formations, foreign interventionist forces, and nationalist forces.
- New markers cover special events that were not represented in the original edition.
- Clarified rules and selected modifications refine the original system.
- Optional rules provide additional ways to approach the game.
The result is a broad conflict game focused on the competing military and political forces that fought to determine Russia’s future. Players must contend with a complex mix of revolutionary upheaval, counter-revolution, nationalism, and foreign intervention as the struggle unfolds across an expanded map.
Released in 2011, Russian Civil War 1918-1922 (Second Edition) preserves the foundation of the classic design while adding formations, events, territory, clarifications, and optional rules for a more comprehensive treatment of the conflict.
